Anyone have a moral issue with Jerry saying "a friend of the devil is a friend of mine"?

Come on, this is one line in a song that is intended to set the scene of a desperate 19th century cowboy running from the law. It's an important line in the story to show just how far ther person has fallen. This is not a case of Barlow or Weir condoning pedophilia. I have a teenage daughter as well and these lyrics have never offended me. This is also different from pervasive, gratuitous demeaning and sexist lyrics that permeate much of today's music.

This post reminds me of the folks who condemn cartoon violence because it might adversely affect kid's minds. I am a pacifist to the core, and I still get a chuckle when Daffy gets his beak blown backwards by a stick of dynamite hidden in a bouquet (sp?) of flowers that Bugs gave him and says "Thatthhh Dethpicable"

Bugs Bunny: Would you like to shoot me now or wait 'til you get home?
Daffy Duck: Shoot him now! Shoot him now!
Bugs Bunny: You keep outta this! He doesn't have to shoot you now!
Daffy Duck: He does SO have to shoot me now![to Elmer]I demand that you shoot me now!
[Elmer raises his gun. As Daffy sticks his tongue out at Bugs, he is shot]
Daffy Duck: Let'th run through that again.
Bugs Bunny: Okay.[neutral tone] Wouldja like to shoot me now or wait till ya get home.
Daffy Duck: [neutral tone] Shoot him now, shoot him now.
Bugs Bunny: [neutral tone] You keep outta dis, he doesn't hafta shoot you now.
Daffy Duck: [with expression] HA! THAT'TH IT! HOLD IT RIGHT THERE![to audience]Pronoun trouble.[to Bugs]It'th not "He doethn't have to shoot[pointing to Bugs] *you* now." It'th "He doethn't have to shoot[pointing to himself] *me* now."
[with anger]Well, *I* thay he *does* have to shoot me now!
[to Elmer]THO SHOOT ME NOW!
[Elmer shoots him]

I just love it.

I always liked the push-button home episode. Daffy as the salesman and Porky as the unassuming homeowner. Too f'ing funny!

Jack Straw kills Shannon for being a loose cannon. (Hey that rhymes). I like the song but I do not condone murder, just in case that was not clear...:)

P.S. - It is called Mexicali BLUES! Not Mexicali Fiesta...

Ah yes! One of my favourites - thank you for that! Any cartoon featuring Yosemite Sam usually goes down a treat too.

Bugs Bunny: Eh, what's up Doc? You with the sideshow around here?
Yosemite Sam: I'm no Doc, ya flea-bitten varmint! I'm Riff-Raff Sam, the riffiest riff that ever riffed a raff!

Spongebob has had some pretty cool tunes, and guest artists, but I would not equate it with the level of Looney Tunes.

Dude, you're taking my original post a little off. I know it's just a song. I know its just a lyric that is integral to the story of the song. I know it means nothing beyond the song itself and is no way a reflection on the authors. Just pointing somehting out. It was just a mental note, nothing more. Personal opinion if anything. Now, can we get back to more cartoon dialogue?

When I was 7 or 8 we used to play a game we called "japanese suicide", One kid had a machine gun the rest of us would charge... Whoever died best got to kill everyone the next time.

I've been a lifetime pacifist myself... Go figger, huh?

Good to see you back purplegel... How's things in the Salty City?

Hey Cush - we used to play that game too when I was about that age except we called it Best Man Falls - the kid who died most convincingly (i.e. theatrically) was judged the winner.

By the way - thanks for the doggy pics yesterday. It was good to see you!

Yes, I've always had a big morale issue with that lyric. I hit the FF everytime it comes on. I've always found it odd, considering we all know Jerry loves Jesus. Just listen to his solo stuff after the coma. Pure Gospel.
